Role overview
Royal Mail is hiring a Parcel Delivery Driver for its Ipswich Delivery Office in IP1 1AA on a permanent basis. This role is part of a team that handles multi-drop deliveries, helping ensure parcels and other items reach customers on time and in good condition.
The position involves more than just driving. You will prepare your van and organise your workload for the day, then use route-planning tools to complete deliveries efficiently and accurately. The work is designed to make a positive difference to customers every day.
Hours and working pattern
This is a 37-hour per week role, scheduled across 5 days from Monday to Sunday, with shifts between 12:30 and 20:00. Because of operational needs, Saturday working is required. Sunday shifts run from 12:30 to 19:30 and will be discussed during the interview.
For candidate search purposes, roles between 35 and 37 hours per week are shown as full-time. However, in the employment contract, any role under 40 hours per week is classed as part-time.
What you will do
You will deliver parcels across the assigned area, handling a variety of items securely and professionally. This includes election materials and certain regulated goods such as food products or alcohol, in line with Royal Mail business standards. The role requires you to represent the company positively while working independently throughout the day.
About you
Royal Mail is looking for someone who is energetic, self-driven and comfortable working on their own. You should be well organised, reliable and able to use your initiative. Strong customer service is important, as is a friendly and professional approach when dealing with customers. The role suits someone who is happy working in the afternoon and early evening and enjoys a multi-drop driving environment.
Requirements and additional information
You must hold a full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points. Applicants should also be prepared to review the Information Checklist for acceptable documents and the Health Matrix for health-related considerations before progressing. Please keep your contact details current when applying.
Pay and benefits
This permanent role offers a guaranteed hourly rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to your working hours.
- 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with length of service and adjusted if you work fewer than 37 hours per week
- Full uniform supplied
- Company pension scheme with competitive contribution rates
- Opportunities to build a career, including trainee manager roles and apprentice schemes
- Enhanced family-friendly support, including maternity pay, paternity leave, adoption leave and shared parental leave
- 24/7 access to wellbeing support and tools for you and your family, covering physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing
- Access to a range of discounts, including high street vouchers, travel and attraction savings, plus reductions on beauty products and gym memberships
- Free stamps at Christmas
Equal opportunities and recruitment support
Royal Mail Group is committed to inclusion and to reflecting the communities it serves. Applications are welcome from all individuals, and the company especially encourages members of the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners, to apply. If you need adjustments during the hiring process, you can discuss these with your recruiter when contacted.
How selection works
If your application is successful, the next step will be an interview with the recruitment team.
