Role overview
This position is for an Operations Manager supporting a long-standing client in the shipping sector. The role focuses on managing everyday marine activities, coordinating vessel movements, guiding an operations team, and making sure services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with regulations. A key part of the job is also improving workflows, strengthening operational performance, and working across departments to support business expansion.
The successful candidate will bring deep experience in maritime operations, strong people leadership, and the confidence to operate effectively in a busy, high-pressure environment.
Key responsibilities
- Manage daily marine operations to keep service delivery safe, smooth, and efficient.
- Arrange vessel schedules and coordinate operational tasks.
- Work with customers, terminals, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Maintain accurate operational records and ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
- Lead, coach, and develop the operations team while promoting continuous improvement.
- Track operational KPIs, budgets, and cost-control measures.
- Assess current procedures and refine processes to improve workflow efficiency.
- Support operational excellence initiatives through process upgrades and digitalisation efforts.
- Collaborate with internal functions to uphold strong safety standards and performance levels.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
- At least 7 to 8 years of experience in maritime operations, ideally with supervisory or managerial exposure.
- Strong capability in leadership, communication, and stakeholder coordination.
- Ability to stay effective under pressure and handle several priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Good planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Previous involvement in process improvement or operational excellence projects will be an added advantage.
