Role Overview
DIS is seeking a Motion Graphics Designer to join our Design and Digital Services team. This role involves creating visually engaging motion graphics, animations, and videos to support marketing and outreach efforts. The candidate should possess strong design acumen, expertise in video editing, typography, and composition, and thrive in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with delivery teams and senior designers to ideate, design, and produce motion graphics and animations for digital and social media platforms, including explainer videos, kinetic typography, infographics, characters, and more.
- Function as a visual storyteller, developing creative solutions based on scripts and stakeholder input.
- Edit and enhance videos with motion graphics, titles, transitions, and visual effects.
- Generate innovative ideas to effectively engage target audiences and communicate key messages.
- Develop and present design concepts through mood boards, storyboards, or other mediums.
- Manage projects from concept to completion ensuring quality and brand consistency.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, including Section 508, for all deliverables.
- Optimize graphics for various platforms such as web, broadcast, and presentations.
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality results on time.
- Apply critical thinking and industry insights to creatively address client challenges.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Visual or Fine Arts, Photography, Communications, Media, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in motion graphics or video design, preferably in creative agencies, PR/marketing firms, government contractors, or nonprofits.
- Strong portfolio of motion graphics and video editing work available for review.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, and Audition or equivalent software.
- Extensive experience in video production tasks such as editing, color correction, audio sweetening, compositing, and web-based delivery.
- Excellent graphic design skills adaptable across print and digital media.
- Skilled in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for creating formatted reports, templates, infographics, and diagrams.
- Deep understanding of typography, color theory, composition, storytelling, and brand guideline alignment.
- Expertise in Section 508 compliance related to video accessibility, including captioning and audio descriptions.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation abilities.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Team-oriented with interpersonal skills, capable of independent work.
- Effective at organizing and coordinating multiple complex priorities.
- Committed to excellent client service and maintaining a robust work ethic.
- Legal authorization to work in the US without sponsorship; ability to obtain US government security clearance required.
- Veteran candidates are preferred.
Preferred Background
- Experience in government consulting or contracting.
- Familiarity with healthcare or Veteran/military audience projects.
Physical and Cognitive Demands
- Extended periods sitting and working at a computer (up to 8 hours daily).
- Requirement for clear communication and hearing.
- Repetitive hand/wrist movement handling computer input.
- Ability to focus closely on visual details.
- Ability to learn new tasks, maintain concentration, recall processes, and meet productivity requirements.
