Role overview
This position is focused on helping create and sustain a secure, orderly environment across the school campus by supervising students in different areas of the building and grounds.
Key duties
- Follow all applicable laws, board policies, rules, procedures, and supervisor directions.
- Carry out daily tasks mostly on an independent basis in the assigned areas.
- Build constructive working relationships with staff and maintain respectful interactions with the school district’s internal and external community.
- Support administrators, teachers, and staff in keeping the school safe and orderly for students, employees, and visitors.
- Observe student conduct in assigned indoor and outdoor locations.
- Provide assistance to students, staff, and others as needed and maintain appropriate professional relations.
- Report policy violations, rule infractions, and any situations that could affect the safety of the building, campus, or community.
- Escort students, parents/guardians, visitors, and others as required.
- Help with attendance processes, including tardy reporting and late-line procedures when assigned.
- Check doors and windows to ensure they remain secure and are not left open improperly.
- Monitor bathrooms, lavatories, and lockers, including proper use of logs and access procedures.
- Oversee hallways and stairways for conduct, safety, ID checks, dress code compliance, student passes, and visitor identification.
- Monitor parent drop-off and pick-up areas as assigned.
- Supervise the cafeteria, clean tables, sweep floors between lunches, and assist students during meals with containers, recycling, and sign-in/sign-out logs.
- Provide basic office support such as delivering items, lamination, shredding, mailbox sorting, phone coverage, and light filing.
- Keep watch over the building during after-school hours to support safety, security, and appropriate conduct.
- Promote proper use of school property and report misuse or unsafe conditions.
- Maintain accurate records and submit reports on time.
- Protect confidential information at all times.
- Work additional hours when authorized to complete assigned tasks.
- Continue job-related learning and development through professional development activities when directed.
- Perform duties safely without creating a direct threat to self or others.
- Complete other related tasks assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is preferred; an associate degree, two years of postsecondary study from an accredited college or university, or related educational training is also preferred.
- Prior experience in a school or comparable setting is preferred.
- Experience working with students is preferred.
- Strong communication, judgment, planning, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with different audiences.
- Ability to follow directions and work within the established chain of command.
- Dependable, punctual, flexible, neatly presented, appropriately dressed, and able to manage time well.
- Professional demeanor and image at all times.
- Courteous behavior toward students, staff, and the public.
- Working knowledge of relevant technology resources, where applicable.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to operate position-related equipment and perform basic servicing or minor repair.
Physical requirements
- Able to remain on foot for extended periods and walk throughout the building or assigned area.
- Capable of moving around the worksite to access materials, cabinets, machinery, and other resources.
- Ability to travel between district buildings and other job-related locations as needed.
- Able to work in changing indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
- Capable of accessing all work areas and locations.
- Ability to lift as required.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach above shoulder level.
- Must have acceptable vision and hearing.
- Ability to climb stairs and ramps.
