Job overview

This role is focused on carrying out maintenance, repairs, and servicing for mechanical machinery and equipment so the power plant runs efficiently and unplanned stoppages are kept to a minimum. The position supports both simple-cycle and combined-cycle power generation blocks, along with balance of plant systems, in Doha, Qatar.

Key accountabilities

• Maintain and repair a broad range of mechanical plant equipment and systems used in a power generation environment.
• Handle preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance with limited supervision, including being available for call-out duties when needed, and work to restore equipment and systems as quickly as possible.
• Support Technician Engineers or independently complete assigned jobs with a clear understanding of the required procedures, risks, and safe work methods, selecting the right tools and equipment for the task.
• Carry out maintenance activities in line with EHS standards and plant operating rules to reduce the risk of incidents, accidents, and inquiries.
• Observe recurring faults, identify root causes, and help implement lasting fixes to prevent repeat failures.
• Supervise contract workers when required to ensure maintenance tasks are completed according to agreed plans.
• Work in conditions that may involve significant exposure to high-pressure steam, high voltage, arc flash, strong magnetic fields, high noise, fumes, heat, humidity, dust, working at height, chemical splashes, acids, mineral oil, and other liquids, while managing safety and health risks carefully.
• Follow instructions from the supervisor, whether given verbally or in writing.

Qualifications and experience

A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a Craft/Trade certificate, or an equivalent qualification, is required.

For diploma holders, a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a thermal power plant is needed. For craft/trade certificate holders, at least 8 years of experience in mechanical maintenance is required.

Hands-on exposure to GE Frame 9E/9FA gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, thermal desalination systems, and other balance of plant equipment overhauls is essential.

Skills and working style

The role calls for strong familiarity with mechanical maintenance tools, solid computer literacy, and working knowledge of gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, compressors, pumps, cooling towers, and reverse osmosis plants. A good command of spoken and written English, strong interpersonal skills, assertiveness, teamwork, shift-working ability, self-drive, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment are all important.

Additional information

This is a full-time onsite role based in Doha, Qatar. The role includes shift work and may require support during on-call periods.
