Librarian

Job Overview

The Librarian serves as the chief professional managing the University Library at Koforidua Technical University. This position is pivotal in ensuring the library provides adequate, up-to-date informational resources that effectively support the University's teaching, learning, and research missions. Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the Librarian undertakes various functions as defined by the University's statutes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the operations of the University Library.
• Manage and provide sufficient library resources aligned with academic needs.
• Report to the Vice-Chancellor regarding library management.
• Carry out additional duties as mandated by University regulations.

Qualifications and Experience

• A postgraduate degree in library or information science or related field; possession of a PhD is considered an advantage.
• At least six years of experience as a Deputy Librarian at a University or an equivalent role in a similar organisation.
• Proficiency in library software or information management systems congruent with the University's objectives.
• Active membership in a professional librarianship or information science body.
• A minimum of 15 published works.
• Demonstrated capability to lead, inspire, and manage library staff effectively.
• Strong industry sense, leadership acumen, and organizational skills.
• Ability to allocate resources properly to satisfy faculty and student needs within budget constraints.
• Ensure fair and equitable access to information in both physical and virtual environments.
• Computer literacy is essential.
• Candidate should be able to serve a full four-year term before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.

Terms of Appointment

• This is a full-time role with an initial appointment period of four years.
• Renewal of the term is possible for an additional four years or a part thereof, contingent upon satisfactory performance.
• Compensation and benefits are competitive and in line with similar positions in Ghanaian universities.
