As a Laundry Aide, you will help support residents in long-term care facilities like Macassa or Wentworth Lodge by managing laundry tasks that ensure hygiene and comfort.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather and prepare soiled laundry for collection and laundering, both in-house and externally.
  • Operate industrial laundry equipment including washers, dryers, sewing, and labeling machines to clean garments and linens.
  • Label, track, and deliver residents’ personal clothing and linens accurately.
  • Conduct preventive upkeep of machines by cleaning lint traps, performing minor maintenance, and reporting faults.
  • Stock and distribute linen carts to designated areas according to established quotas and monitor linen inventories, reporting shortages as needed.
  • Maintain records related to laundry activities, expenses, and lost or damaged items.
  • Perform minor mending and sewing duties such as repairing linens and making tablecloths or food covers.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff, residents, and families with professionalism and empathy.
  • Adhere to all applicable health and safety standards and organizational policies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant laundry experience typically gained through a mix of education and work, preferably in healthcare settings.
  • Proficiency in handling commercial laundry machines and related equipment.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 13 kg and apply force up to 18 kg for pushing or pulling tasks.
  • Capacity to comprehend written and oral instructions clearly and respectfully communicate with colleagues and residents.
  • Understanding of laundry materials, methods, and equipment use.
  • Willingness to undergo and apply on-the-job training.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and respectful interactions in a long-term care environment.

This position is unionized under CUPE Local 5167 Lodges. Applications are accepted for upcoming permanent and temporary full-time and part-time roles from September 8, 2026, through March 8, 2027.
