Lab Technician

About the Role

Tirlán, a leading global food and nutrition cooperative with an extensive portfolio including brands such as Avonmore, Kilmeaden Cheese, and Premier Milk, is seeking a Lab Technician on a fixed-term contract based in Dungarvan, County Waterford. The role involves joining a dedicated team responsible for conducting various Chemistry and Microbiology tests focused on milk quality control and assurance. Our laboratory maintains full accreditation with CLAS and emphasizes thorough onboarding through internal training, quality assurance procedures, accreditation standards, and audit participation.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform raw milk analysis using microbiological techniques including private well water testing, Standard Plate Count (SPC), and culture methods.
• Execute rapid microbiological assays such as Bactoscan measurements, ELISA, and PCR tests.
• Conduct chemical testing utilizing methods like FTIR, Gerber, Kjeldahl analysis, and LCMS/MS.
• Monitor samples for antibiotics and inhibitory substances.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation and accurate record-keeping.
• Engage in internal and external proficiency testing programs to ensure quality standards.
• Carry out routine cleaning, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Uphold high standards of laboratory hygiene on a daily basis.
• Promptly report any non-conformances or potential issues and actively participate in investigations and continuous improvement efforts.

Candidate Requirements

• Hold a qualification in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline focused on quality control.
• Experience or familiarity with the agricultural or dairy industries is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Strong communication skills and capability to collaborate effectively within a team.
• Proficient in IT applications relevant to laboratory work.
• Ability to interpret analytical data and solve problems efficiently.
• Adaptable, organized, and willing to pursue further training for professional growth.
