IT Infrastructure Technician

About the Role

This position is a 12-month contract based onsite in Athlone. The IT Infrastructure Technician will provide direct technical and coordination support for IT infrastructure delivery. This role involves hands-on activities as well as collaborative efforts with multiple stakeholders, such as Engineering, Facilities, Automation, Quality, Global IT Operations, and external vendors. The main goal is to ensure infrastructure is delivered following safety, security, compliance, and project standards. The technician will also manage escalation of decisions, risks, and approvals through relevant governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering key IT infrastructure packages from installation to operational handover, coordinating with internal teams and vendors.
• Oversee vendor activities to ensure compliance with scope, documentation, safety regulations, and technical specifications.
• Engage in construction walk-throughs to identify defects, manage snag lists, and confirm completion before final acceptance.
• Maintain technical documentation, including asset registers, rack layouts, patch records, test results, as-built drawings, commissioning, handover documentation, and ServiceNow entries.
• Participate in project governance meetings, manage infrastructure-related risks and issues, and report status to project leaders.
• Ensure high standards in IT rooms and network equipment spaces, including organization, labeling, environmental monitoring, cable management, and asset tracking.
• Support technical implementation activities like installation, configuration, commissioning, verification, documentation, and handover of network, server, storage, cabling, Wi-Fi, and other IT components.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree, diploma, trade qualification, or equivalent experience in IT, computer science, network engineering, infrastructure, electrical/ICT, or similar areas.
• Between 3 and 5 years of hands-on experience in IT infrastructure support, including ICT deployment, data center environments, network/server rooms, or regulated manufacturing infrastructure projects.
• Practical skills in structured cabling, rack assembly, patching, network/server hardware, Wi-Fi infrastructure, asset management, and technical documentation.
• Commitment to safety and strict adherence to procedures, standards, drawings, and project instructions within construction and operational settings.
• Strong foundational knowledge of LAN/WAN, VLANs, switching, routing, Active Directory, ITIL processes, change control, and incident management.
• Excellent communication, documentation, stakeholder coordination, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic project environment.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working within pharmaceutical, GMP, GxP, or other regulated environments.
• Direct involvement with FAT, SAT, installation verification, commissioning packs, construction and vendor turnover documentation, and operational handover procedures.
• Familiarity with ServiceNow, configuration management database (CMDB), asset lifecycle management, change management, and vendor follow-up processes.
