The Inventory Management Planner acts as a strategic partner within the Merchandise Planning & Inventory team, responsible for overseeing comprehensive inventory management across South Africa's Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), Retail, Wholesale, and Omnichannel segments. This role is pivotal in maintaining ideal inventory levels, ensuring efficiency and alignment between commercial goals and supply chain capabilities.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the full scope of inventory management for DTC, Retail, Wholesale, and Omnichannel operations.
- Design and implement inventory strategies that complement financial targets, sales goals, and customer service standards.
- Manage key inventory metrics such as health, turnover, weeks of supply, availability, and productivity.
- Facilitate inventory visibility and ensure alignment between commercial and supply chain teams.
- Provide regular forecasts, conduct risk evaluations, and offer actionable solutions monthly.
- Contribute to Monthly Business Reviews, Quarterly Business Reviews, Sales & Operations Planning, and financial planning activities.
- Conduct demand and supply reconciliation in coordination with commercial and supply planners.
- Analyze supply risks and develop contingency plans for delays, cancellations, and shortages.
- Collaborate with global teams including Supply Planning, Sourcing, and Logistics to optimize inventory movement.
- Oversee inbound shipment visibility, purchase order tracking, and availability reporting.
- Develop channel allocation strategies to maximize sales, margins, and service levels.
- Recommend prioritization actions to support key product launches and commercial campaigns.
- Work closely with Merchandise Planning, Sales, Retail, and DTC teams to align inventory with demand forecasts.
- Provide scenario analyses and insights to assist business decision-making.
- Continuously seek improvements in inventory processes and planning effectiveness.
- Coordinate cross-departmental execution of supply, allocation, and inventory initiatives.
- Monitor key inventory indicators and convey associated risks and opportunities.
- Formulate and implement strategies for managing excess and obsolete stock.
- Partner with Finance and Commercial departments to minimize aging inventory.
- Drive markdowns, promotions, and clearance efforts through wholesale channels.
- Support the achievement of productivity and working capital objectives.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Commerce, Logistics, or a related discipline.
- Between 5 to 7 years of experience in inventory management, supply planning, or retail supply chain roles.
- Comprehensive understanding of DTC, Retail, and Wholesale business models.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, SAP systems, and analytical tools is preferable.
- Experience collaborating with global stakeholders and managing cross-functional teams is critical.
