AusHealth includes two commercial entities offering revenue management services for healthcare providers and drug testing services for workplaces.
Position Summary
The Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder role involves assigning precise and timely clinical codes to patient care episodes. This is accomplished by analyzing clinical documentation through the ICD-10-AM/ACHI classification systems and adhering to Australian and State Coding Standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze medical records to ensure accurate, complete coding for a diverse case mix.
- Apply initiative and judgement in using Australian and State Coding Standards to assign diagnosis and procedure codes correctly.
- Ensure proper sequencing of Australian ICD-10-AM codes and appropriate Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) assignments.
- Conduct research as needed to support informed decision-making in clinical documentation and coding standards application.
- Troubleshoot coding issues, consulting coding standards and hospital guidelines, escalating complex cases to the Coding Manager when necessary.
- Liaise with relevant staff to resolve coding discrepancies and contribute to quality health data activities.
- Engage in continuous learning and development, demonstrating the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Participate in initiatives aimed at quality improvement and maintenance of accurate, regulatory-compliant records.
- Promote a safe, equitable workplace by adhering to policies and practicing safe work habits.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in Health Information Management qualifying for Health Information Manager classification.
- Certificate IV in Clinical Classification or Diploma of Clinical Coding for Clinical Coder classification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret unclear medical records effectively.
- Detail-oriented with the capacity to maintain focus during prolonged tasks.
- Team player able to also work autonomously.
- Results-oriented, innovative, and resourceful mindset.
Additional Information
The role includes coding and auditing services for preferred clients within the portfolio. Appointment is contingent on a clear National Police Check, passing pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, proof of eligibility to live and work in Australia, and adherence to vaccination requirements.
