Job Overview
The Head of Sales Development & Commercial for the e-commerce grocery sector is tasked with spearheading sales strategies and business growth initiatives for the online grocery segment. This role emphasizes expanding market penetration, boosting online sales figures, and enhancing the customer journey through strategic sales approaches, promotional efforts, and alliance-building.
Primary Duties
- Formulate and execute a robust sales plan targeting revenue expansion, customer acquisition, and retention within the e-commerce grocery space.
- Direct commercial planning encompassing product assortment, pricing policies, e-catalog management, promotional activities, and sales forecasting to fulfill revenue goals and optimize profits.
- Conduct market and competitor analysis to spot growth avenues and devise tactics to engage new customer segments.
- Maintain strategic partnerships with key vendors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing, exclusive offers, and promotional opportunities aligned with the online grocery strategy.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on key sales metrics ensuring achievement or surpassing of revenue, customer acquisition, and retention targets.
- Collaborate with category and product teams to fine-tune the product mix, enhancing sales and customer satisfaction.
- Partner with marketing and UX/UI teams to improve the online shopping experience by increasing conversion rates, basket size, and encouraging repeat shopping.
- Work cross-functionally with operations, logistics, marketing, and IT to ensure seamless sales integration and elevate operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
- Lead the creation, deployment, and assessment of promotional campaigns to drive traffic, increase conversion, and elevate average order value.
- Develop, manage, and inspire a high-performing commercial and sales team focused on generating additional income streams through supplier partnerships.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in sales, business development, or commercial strategy within e-commerce or retail grocery settings, including 3-5 years in leadership roles.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
- Proven track record in crafting and implementing effective sales strategies.
- Deep understanding of e-commerce grocery markets and consumer behavior.
- Strong analytical abilities with a focus on data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
