Role Overview

The position of Head of Geography entails full-time, on-site leadership and management of the Geography department. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering dynamic Geography lessons aligned with the British curriculum, overseeing curriculum development processes, assessing and reporting student progress, and supporting departmental staff through mentorship. Additional duties include organizing fieldwork and experiential activities, promoting the subject within the school, engaging in staff meetings, professional development, and participating actively in school functions. The role also requires contribution to co-curricular programs and embodiment of the school's Christian ethos.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Geography department to ensure high-quality teaching and curriculum delivery.
  • Plan and facilitate engaging Geography lessons relevant to British curriculum standards such as IGCSE and A-Level.
  • Develop and coordinate schemes of work, assessments, and reporting systems to monitor student achievement.
  • Mentor and support teaching staff within the department to maintain effective pedagogy and classroom management.
  • Organize and oversee field trips, practical work, and experiential learning opportunities to enrich students’ understanding.
  • Contribute to whole-school academic initiatives and uphold standards through active participation in staff meetings and professional development.
  • Promote Geography's profile within the school community and participate in co-curricular activities fostering student growth beyond academics.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Comprehensive subject knowledge in Geography with proven teaching experience in British curriculum settings (IGCSE, A-Level, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum planning, assessment design, and data-driven student progress evaluation.
  • Strong leadership capabilities including team management, mentoring skills, and strategic planning involvement.
  • Effective classroom management and instructional differentiation to meet diverse learner needs.
