Position Overview
We seek a Head of Data & AI to spearhead our intelligence efforts. This leadership role involves creating a state-of-the-art data and machine learning platform that transforms data into actionable models improving delivery operations and automating manual tasks. You will craft strategic decisions, oversee architecture and model deployment, and build a scalable team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full data platform, including the data warehouse, streaming and batch ingestion systems, semantic layers, and business intelligence tools.
- Implement and maintain data governance practices ensuring access control, data quality, and trusted "gold" data layers.
- Ensure the data warehouse serves as the definitive source for operational, product, and financial analytics.
- Develop machine learning models for forecasting, prediction, optimization, allocation, and reliability assessments to enhance real-time decisions.
- Establish machine learning infrastructure covering feature pipelines, model training, serving, evaluation, and monitoring for drift.
- Design continuous learning loops by tracking decisions and outcomes to refine models over time.
- Lead the AI agent initiative from concept to production, collaborating closely with product and engineering teams on workflows.
- Grow and manage the data and ML team, recruiting specialized engineers and scientists to expand capabilities.
- Create a structured intake system for data requests to prioritize strategic roadmap-driven work over reactive tasks.
- Collaborate across Sales, Customer Success, and Finance to provide data-informed insights for decision-making.
Qualifications
- Over eight years of experience in data and machine learning roles, including at least two years in leadership managing data or ML platforms.
- A player-coach mindset with active involvement in technical tasks such as system architecture, modeling, and code reviews.
- Expertise designing modern data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery), managing streaming and batch data ingestion, using dbt or similar tools, and optimizing performance and costs.
- Proven success deploying production machine learning models impacting business processes, including forecasting, optimization, ranking/matching, and prediction, alongside maintaining necessary ML systems.
- Experience in creating data and ML products that drive business and product goals, beyond pipeline development.
- Familiarity with contemporary AI techniques, including large language models and autonomous agent data workflows, is highly desirable.
- Skilled at stakeholder engagement, capable of managing and prioritizing requests with sound rationale and alternatives.
- Background in high-growth startups or scale-ups where data platforms were assembled from the ground up.
Work Environment
This role is entirely remote within the United States or Canada, with occasional in-person gatherings throughout the year. We emphasize rapid development, clear written communication, and iterative delivery to our customers.
