Job description
About the Role
The Ruhr University Bochum's Department of Infrastructure Building Management is seeking two to three full-time Hausmeister (caretakers) to join their team immediately for a fixed term of two years. This department comprises more than 100 permanent staff engaged in facility services, including caretaking, cleaning, security, parking and traffic management, logistics, fleet management, print supply, maintenance, and remodeling projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring order and safety in assigned buildings and properties, including preventive fire protection and accident prevention through regular inspections
- Managing locking services and handling the custody and distribution of keys
- Maintaining traffic safety around university premises
- Maintaining exterior areas, particularly weed removal
- Removing unauthorized posters and notices
- Documenting maintenance and repair work
- Processing requests via a ticketing system (OTRS)
- Preparing rooms for events or use
- Performing minor repair and assembly tasks
- Supporting small moves and other transport duties
Applicant Profile
- Mandatory completion of a recognized vocational training in a craft trade (journeyman certificate) with several years of practical experience
- Several years of experience working as a Hausmeister
- Desired experience in building management
- Strong affinity for facility management
- Resilient, organized, flexible, and capable of independent work; assertive and cooperative with strong service orientation
- Effective negotiation skills and good communication abilities
- Proficient use of MS Office applications
- Ability to work well in a team
- Valid Class B driving license

Additional Information
The position is employed under the public service collective agreement (TV-L), with classification in pay group E 5, subject to individual and tariff conditions. The workplace is located at Ruhr University Bochum. Applications are welcomed until September 7, 2026.
