This role is well suited to a financial accountant ready to step into a more senior position with greater focus on review, oversight, and process enhancement.

This is a fixed-term role covering maternity leave.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and review day-to-day finance operations, including month-end close for the group across New Zealand, Australia, India, the United States, and China.
  • Prepare consolidated group accounts and deliver monthly management reporting with clear explanations for major budget variances.
  • Partner with the FP&A team to analyse monthly results.
  • Review and authorise payments across the group.
  • Maintain strong control and compliance across accounting and reporting systems.
  • Check the work of financial accountants and assistant accountants, offering coaching and feedback where needed.
  • Prepare interim and annual reports in line with IFRS requirements.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for external auditors.
  • Support preparation of grant applications with government bodies, including the New Zealand RDTI.
  • Help improve processes and identify opportunities for greater efficiency.
  • Act as the deputy to the Group Financial Controller, contributing to group accounting policy development and representing the function with internal and external stakeholders when required.
  • Carry out other tasks and project work as needed.

What you should bring

  • Strong ability in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Solid understanding of New Zealand IFRS.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing month-end activity and reconciliations, or managing similar work.
  • Knowledge of Xero or NetSuite would be an advantage, though it is not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience producing monthly finance reports with commentary.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a careful, thorough working style.
  • Comfort using AI tools.
  • Experience with Google Workspace would be beneficial, but is not mandatory.

Benefits

  • Competitive base pay.
  • KiwiSaver support with employee contributions matched up to 3.5% of salary, plus life insurance.
  • Health and wellbeing support, including discounted Southern Cross health insurance, confidential assistance and counselling, wellbeing leave, voluntary leave, and free flu vaccinations.
  • Learning and development support, including access to a learning platform, a dedicated budget, and opportunities to shape your own career path.
