Role overview
Brachot is seeking a General Operative for its quarry operations in Kilkenny, County Kilkenny. The business specialises in extracting, manufacturing, and supplying Irish Blue Limestone, which is used in prestigious construction projects around the world.
Hours and pay
The hourly wage is €17.02. The role is scheduled for 39 hours per week. Standard working times are Monday to Thursday from 8:00am to 4:30pm and Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 39 hours. A shift allowance of 22% is available for shift work.
Benefits and terms
Employees receive 22 days of annual leave per year. The role also includes access to the CWPS Pension Scheme, Sick Pay Scheme, and Death in Service Scheme. Service pay becomes applicable after 5 years.
Key duties
- Use quarry or factory machinery such as saws and wire saws to cut stone.
- Move, store, load, and unload materials around the site using a fork truck or gantry, and dispose of waste into skips where required.
- Carry out manual handling tasks, including lifting stone, blades, timbers, skids, and other consumables into place or into skips.
- Process stone into finished goods by unloading and reloading pallets or crates and feeding tiles through processing equipment.
- Select and pack completed products from a cutting table or production line onto pallets or into crates.
- Operate heavy plant and equipment such as loaders, dumpers, excavators, and drill rigs in quarry or factory areas.
- Use cranes or gantries with chains, slings, suction pads, or slab grabbers.
- Grade slabs for quality checks where needed.
- Keep the work area clean and washed down using power washers, hoses, brushes, and shovels when necessary.
- Work on both flat and uneven ground while waiting for machinery to arrive.
- Use a computer to print labels and fix them to slabs or blocks with silicone.
- Perform routine checks and upkeep such as oil top-ups, lubrication, vehicle inspections, and refuelling.
- Collect relevant paperwork from administration or supervisors for incoming and outgoing deliveries.
Experience and skills needed
Applicants should have prior experience in a quarry, construction environment, or another heavy-industry setting. Experience with operating machinery such as loaders, crushers, or screeners is also expected. Useful additional qualifications include plant machinery tickets, a forklift licence, and a basic understanding of machinery or production processes.
