General Duty Laboratory Technologist

Position Summary

Shared Health invites applications for the role of General Duty Medical Laboratory Technologist at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This role involves conducting clinical analyses and reporting on patient specimens based on established protocols while supporting broad lab operations such as maintenance of SOPs and chemical inventories. The position requires strict adherence to professional standards, quality assurance initiatives, provincial regulations, and accreditation criteria to ensure a safe and compliant laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient sample analysis and generate reports following defined procedures.
• Support general laboratory projects including the upkeep of standard operating procedures and chemical stock inventories.
• Maintain compliance with quality assurance policies and safety protocols.
• Contribute to an environment aligned with Shared Health Diagnostic Services’ mission, values, and relevant legislation.

Qualifications and Skills

• Completion of an approved Medical Laboratory Technology program or successful prior learning assessment by the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM).
• Registration or eligibility for registration with CMLTM is required.
• Membership with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; French language proficiency may be required.
• Competency with Windows operating systems; familiarity with Microsoft Office is preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• Analytical skills and capability to perform well under pressure.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Additional Information

• Rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays will be expected.
• Participation in standby and on-call duties as required.
• Flexibility to work at different laboratory stations.
• Exposure to laboratory hazards and risks, with adherence to safety measures per the Job Hazard Analysis for this role.
• A criminal record check including vulnerable sector, child abuse registry, and adult abuse registry checks, current within six months of employment start, is mandatory.
• The role is a full-time position equating to 1.0 FTE, with an annual base of 2015 hours and daily work hours of 7.75.
• Salary ranges between $39,382 and $49,407 annually depending on experience and qualifications.
