About the Role

KPMG East Africa seeks a Funds and Grants Manager to oversee partner implementing financial operations and manage grants within donor-funded projects. This role serves as the key liaison managing the full lifecycle of grants—from due diligence, capacity assessments, financial monitoring, to closure—ensuring strict compliance with client and internal standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main contact for assigned partners, overseeing all grant activities including assessments and financial close-out.
  • Coordinate due diligence and risk assessments for partners, implementing and monitoring necessary mitigation steps.
  • Review partner budgets, amendments, cash flow forecasts, disbursement applications adhering to SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate financial reports monthly, quarterly, and annually, focusing on variances, compliance, and expenditure scrutiny.
  • Manage partner disbursements, ensuring fulfillment of KYC protocols and internal banking policies.
  • Maintain comprehensive financial records and reporting systems for portfolio commitments, spending, and cash projections.
  • Assist client cash flow forecasts to guarantee timely funds availability aligned with partner needs.
  • Compile consolidated quarterly and annual portfolio financial reports in specified formats.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics teams to develop dashboards and reporting tools supporting client decisions.
  • Support audit procedures by supplying financial data and addressing audit outcomes.
  • Develop and refresh financial manuals, SOPs, and training materials while leading partner capacity-building initiatives.
  • Report financial risks and coordinate review meetings on financial performance and budgets with stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership in staff planning, coaching, and training for senior and associate team members.
  • Ensure adherence to KPMG’s quality, risk management, and operational compliance standards.
  • Contribute to business development through strategy, opportunity tracking, proposal creation, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification: CPA, ACCA, CMA, CFA, or equivalent.
  • At least 9 years’ experience in international development sectors including minimum 4 years in public sector audit or fund and grants management.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Deep experience in grants and fund management, preferably in donor-funded or partner-led programs.
  • Proven skills in financial accounting, monitoring, risk management, and building partner capacity.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, including report writing and analytical presentations.
  • Strong resilience, motivation, stress management, and ability to sustain commitment to objectives.
  • Effective team leadership, coordination, and mentoring capabilities.
  • Problem-solving aptitude with adaptability to establish order and solutions in complex situations.
  • High professional ethics, honesty, and adherence to codes of conduct.
  • Ability to navigate and collaborate in multicultural and diverse team environments.
  • Willingness and capacity to travel throughout East Africa and wider African regions as project demands.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders in dynamic environments and demonstrated relationship management and business development track record.
