Role overview
Amentum is hiring a Fire Inspector to support a specialized U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The position focuses on fire prevention, code compliance, and safety oversight across facilities and operations.
What you will do
- Carry out inspections to identify, contain, and remove fire hazards in assigned facilities and operations.
- Check whether fire safety practices align with applicable regulations, codes, and guidance, including NFPA requirements.
- Document violations in detail and propose corrective actions that support legal and safety compliance.
- Examine building plans, layouts, and fire protection systems to verify that they meet fire safety standards.
- Deliver fire and life safety education and outreach as a Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I to build awareness of fire prevention.
- Keep complete and accurate records of inspections, deficiencies, corrective measures, and compliance results.
- Attend and complete the NFPA 101 Life Safety Course within the first two years of employment.
- Apply technical and analytical knowledge to improve fire prevention practices and overall safety performance.
- Support the Fire Marshal and leadership team with prevention programs, risk evaluation, and compliance efforts.
- Respond to emergencies when required and serve as a subject matter resource in fire prevention and life safety.
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Fire Inspector I and II certification, Public Fire and Life Safety Educator I certification, and Hazmat Awareness certification are required; new hires must earn all required certifications within 12 months of joining and may not work independently until fully certified.
- At least 2 years of experience working as a firefighter.
- At least 2 years of experience as a fire inspector, including hazard detection, application of fire codes, and preparation of violation reports and corrective recommendations.
- Strong understanding of fire safety regulations, codes, and NFPA standards.
- Demonstrated ability to inspect buildings, review plans, and confirm compliance with fire safety requirements.
- Ability to pass contract medical requirements and remain medically compliant throughout deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and keep facility credentials and authorization.
Preferred background
- Experience working in a challenging OCONUS environment with a multinational workforce.
- Valid driver’s license for the country of assignment.
- Country visa, if required under the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Advanced study in fire safety, fire risk assessment, and life safety procedures is preferred.
- Familiarity with U.S. Navy or Department of Defense fire safety rules and compliance processes is an advantage.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills in structured, mission-focused settings.
