Role overview
The Bluff Distillery is seeking a finance and planning professional to support the business on a part-time, onsite basis. The team is small and fast-moving, and this role is designed for someone who can keep financial operations accurate while also contributing to planning, reporting, and broader business support.
The distillery is located at Ocean Beach in Bluff, Southland, New Zealand, and is known for its award-winning gin. As the company expands, it aims to bring its distinctive brand story and products to a wider international audience while remaining rooted in its origins.
This position is broader than standard bookkeeping work. Along with maintaining financial accuracy, you will help the team operate smoothly and support growth for one of New Zealand’s most awarded craft gin brands.
Key responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Keep accounting records organised and maintain an accurate general ledger.
- Prepare monthly financial information such as profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, and excise reporting.
- Track sales performance and turn business data into useful decision-making insights.
- Create dashboards and reporting tools for the directors.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
- Monitor inventory, stock levels, and purchasing needs.
- Support customer queries and general customer service tasks when needed.
- Help with campaign execution, social media activity, and digital marketing support.
- Contribute wherever required as part of a small team environment.
Candidate profile
The ideal person will bring hands-on bookkeeping experience along with a commercial mindset. Familiarity with Xero, POS systems, Shopify, and COGS tracking is important. The role also requires strong financial analysis, reporting ability, and awareness of compliance requirements.
You should have a tertiary qualification and/or a relevant qualification in Accounting or Finance. A New Zealand driver’s licence is required. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
Work pattern
This is a part-time role requiring at least 15 hours per week onsite. The business also expects flexibility during busy periods, including month-end work.
Application note
Applications close on 23 July 2026.
