Finance Manager

About the Role

As a Finance Manager at Onside Accounting, you will manage daily operations for a portfolio of clients, acting as a reliable point of contact while collaborating closely with a Client Director responsible for client service and business results. This position involves supporting rapidly growing, venture capital-backed companies by addressing growth challenges such as process enhancements, investor reporting, and fundraising activities. Key Responsibilities

• Take accountability for preparing and reviewing year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, and management reports.
• Lead client communications and maintain strong relationship management across your portfolio, especially during the onboarding of new clients.
• Review and approve VAT returns with accuracy.
• Supervise accounts payable workflows and oversee outsourced bookkeeping services, ensuring quality control.
• Perform hands-on accounting and reconciliations when necessary.
• Track time management, project overruns, and fee recoveries diligently.
• Advocate for technology adoption, automation, and system improvements to boost accuracy and scalability.
• Monitor key performance indicators and profitability metrics within the portfolio.
• Identify and pursue opportunities for upselling and cross-selling additional services such as tax, US services, and CFO offerings.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Qualified ACA or ACCA professional (or equivalent), or AAT-qualified and progressing towards ACA/ACCA or equivalent certifications.
• At least five years of experience in a UK accounting firm with extensive exposure to VAT, month-end, and year-end procedures.
• Proven track record managing a portfolio of 10 or more clients in a dynamic environment.
• Direct experience in onboarding new clients is essential.
• Demonstrated structured remote-work experience beyond temporary COVID-19 measures, ideally with contractual hybrid work agreements including at least two home-working days weekly.
• Strong technical accounting expertise in statutory accounts, VAT, and corporation tax; proficient with Xero accounting software.
• Experience reviewing and approving the work of others to maintain high quality standards.

Additional Information

This remote position is UK-based; candidates must reside in the United Kingdom and have the legal right to work there. The salary range is £45,000 to £55,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
