Job description
Role Overview
The Executive Underwriter for Personal Lines will utilize advanced underwriting expertise to evaluate and manage more complex and sizable risks. This role involves fostering strong broker relationships to cultivate business growth and applying persuasive sales and negotiation techniques to optimize account revenues and discover new prospects. The incumbent will deepen their understanding of company products, strategic goals, and capabilities while developing innovative underwriting approaches, including collaboration with wholesale markets like Lloyd’s of London and partnerships with affiliate brands such as i3 Underwriting and Beacon.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze risks by leveraging both internal and external data for quoting, policy renewal authorization, and accepting new moderate to high complexity business, adhering to company guidelines and retention objectives.
- Establish and nurture professional relationships with brokers by delivering prompt service, proactively addressing inquiries, and resolving issues with a solution-oriented mindset.
- Strive to achieve production targets and regularly meet with brokers and clients through travel to promote business and identify fresh opportunities.
- Make timely, well-informed decisions often under conditions of incomplete information, and communicate these effectively and professionally.
- Manage and grow a profitable portfolio by handling endorsements within delegated authority, engaging brokers for clarification or additional details as needed.
- Ensure compliance with corporate guidelines and delegated authority limits, complete documentation with accuracy and quality, and support updates to underwriting materials and manuals.
- Mentor junior team members when required, and contribute to product development including program enhancements and carrier discussions.

- Pursue insurance designations such as CAIB, CIP, CRM, or advanced credentials like FCIP, ACIP, or managing general agent programs.
- Share knowledge to promote a culture of learning and volunteer at industry-related functions or organizations.
Work Environment and Qualifications
- Work in a collaborative and independent environment requiring active listening, critical thinking, and mentoring capabilities.
- Minimum five years of relevant personal lines underwriting experience or ten years in personal lines brokering.
- Currently pursuing or holding insurance designations (CIP or CAIP preferred).
- Possess or be eligible for a Level 1 or 2 broker license within 90 days.
- Maintain existing industry relationships to leverage business growth opportunities.
- Lead business development meetings and attend industry events regularly.
- Technical proficiency including typing speed of at least 40 words per minute and competency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and office equipment operation.
