Entry-Level Surveyor / Survey Technician

Job Overview

Hennessey Engineers is looking for an Entry-Level Surveyor or Survey Technician experienced in Civil 3D and MicroStation Open Roads Designer to join our Southgate, MI office. The role involves varied tasks both in the field and at the office, such as construction staking, engineering design surveys, and GIS mapping using GPS and LiDAR technologies. The ideal candidate should be well-versed in contemporary surveying methodologies and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and use surveying instruments efficiently.
• Gather and compile information to stake out projects according to engineering blueprints.
• Manage computerized data collection for survey operations.
• Document survey measurements and related details through notes, sketches, and drawings.
• Process survey data to produce boundary, topographic, right-of-way, and as-built surveys using MicroStation and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to walk, climb, and navigate outdoor terrains to conduct field surveys.
• Capability to lift and transport survey equipment as needed.
• Must be able to operate company vehicles to travel between work sites.
• Willingness to work outdoors under various weather conditions.
• Indoors, tasks involve computer work, standard office equipment usage, brief periods of sitting or standing, and light lifting.
• Good visual acuity and clear communication skills in person, over phone, and in writing are required.

Educational and Licensing Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Previous internship or entry-level experience in surveying.
• Proficiency with MicroStation Select Series and Open Roads Designer software.
• Experience working with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Capability to work safely on construction and project sites following all relevant safety protocols.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail with adherence to deadlines.
