Elementary Prep Time Specialist - Art/Music

Overview

The role is based at Boulton Elementary and reports to the Principal or another designated supervisor. The specialist covers classes and supervises students during teacher preparation time, while also planning lessons and preparing classroom materials for instruction in subject-specific areas such as music, art, science, computer operations, media center use, physical education, languages, and health.

Work Schedule and Pay

This is a classified position that stays open until a suitable candidate is selected. The role pays $19.98 per hour under Salary Grade 6, based on the 2026-27 Support Salary Table, and promotions come with at least a 5% increase. The assignment is 2.96 hours per day for 174 days per year, with working hours scheduled Monday through Thursday, approximately 12:00 PM to 3:45 PM, for a total of 14.81 hours per week.

Key Duties

The position involves teaching assigned classes and supervising students while regular classroom teachers are on preparation time. It also includes developing lesson plans, assembling required materials, and delivering instruction in designated specialty areas.

Education and Qualifications

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, along with relevant education or training in the chosen specialty area if available. The district also accepts one of the following educational benchmarks: two years of full-time higher education equivalent to 48 semester hours, an associate degree, or the ability to later pass a para-professional exam approved by the Utah State Office of Education.

Skills and Experience

Strong knowledge of the subject areas being taught is required, along with the ability to work well with students, teachers, and other school staff. The district also expects effective teaching ability. No prior job experience is required, though experience working with children is preferred.
