Job description
Job Overview
This role involves the detailed design and development of lightning protection systems aligned with international and national standards including IEC 62305, IS 2309, NFC, and UL. The engineer will conduct risk assessment calculations, create comprehensive layouts and designs for both external and internal lightning protection systems, and prepare detailed Bills of Quantities and cost estimates.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop lightning protection systems conforming to relevant standards.
- Perform lightning risk assessments according to IEC 62305-2.
- Prepare design layouts for external systems featuring air terminals, down conductors, and earthing networks.
- Design internal protection including surge protection devices and bonding systems.
- Create routing diagrams and earthing network designs.
- Select appropriate materials and specify components used in lightning protection.
- Generate Bills of Quantities and provide cost approximations.
- Liaise with project teams, site personnel, and installation experts to facilitate execution.
- Conduct site surveys and offer technical feedback to enhance design accuracy.
- Ensure all designs comply with safety norms and regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain technical records, reports, and as-built documentation.
Required Skills and Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of lightning protection and grounding system design principles.
- Strong familiarity with IEC 62305 standards and risk assessment procedures.
- Expertise in surge protective devices design and application.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and other relevant design software tools.
- Solid understanding of grounding/earthing methods and soil resistivity.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and documentation skills.
Additional Information
- Experience working in industrial, infrastructure, or commercial sectors is advantageous.
- Capability to manage multiple ongoing projects while adhering to deadlines.
- Willingness to travel to sites as needed for surveys and inspections.
