Role Overview

Join Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) as an Ecologist based in our Athens, PA office. Collaborate with project teams to navigate the intricate environmental regulatory environment, assisting energy, commercial, and industrial clients in meeting their objectives while complying with state and federal laws. Your initial responsibilities include supporting wetland and stream delineations, compiling delineation reports, and aiding with permit application preparations. This role is part of our career development model, where you evolve from supportive roles into leadership positions by learning data collection significance and techniques. Over time, you may lead field teams and acquire project management experience. Expect to split your time roughly equally between fieldwork and office duties.

CEC’s Ecological Practice represents a major revenue stream and forms a critical component of integrated services we provide clients. Our practice stands out due to extensive expertise spanning wetland and stream delineation and permitting, compensatory mitigation, threatened and endangered species surveys and compliance, ecosystem restoration, and environmental planning including NEPA and FERC processes. This corporate group collaborates across all CEC offices to bring tailored ecological expertise to specific client projects.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in natural sciences such as Biology, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or Forestry.
• Willingness and capability to work outdoors accurately collecting data amid diverse weather and terrain conditions, while following safety protocols.
• Strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving abilities.
• Team-oriented mindset with capability to accept direction and work cooperatively with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior internship or at least one year of professional experience in ecology or biology.
• Experience assisting with and leading wetland and stream delineations as well as preparing related reports.
• Competence in botanical and plant identification.
• Completion of 40-Hour wetland delineation training.
• Experience in preparing Pennsylvania Chapter 105 permit applications.
• Proficiency in using mapping-grade GPS and ArcGIS Pro software.
