About The Madrasa Early Childhood Development Program (MECPU)

MECPU is a community-led initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation focusing on holistic Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) in Uganda for children aged 0-8 years. It strengthens caregivers' knowledge, builds capacity of early childhood frontline workers, and influences policy makers to improve ECCE nationwide. Since its expansion to Uganda in 1993, MECPU has improved pre-primary education access and quality, serving thousands of children through 207 communities across 10 districts.

MECPU, in collaboration with Echidna Giving, implements the Gender Equitable Early Learning and Development Project (GEELD-Uganda) aimed at enhancing nurturing care, early learning, and access to quality inclusive early learning centers in Luweero and Mukono districts. The program also advocates for enabling government policies supporting ECD services.

Role Overview

MECPU seeks a Driver to support the technical, finance, and administrative units. The role involves safely operating organizational vehicles, maintaining vehicle condition, handling communications and official documents, and ensuring trips are coordinated efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive organization vehicles safely and in line with policies.
• Manage incoming and outgoing mails and correspondence as assigned.
• Ensure valid insurance, license, and inspection documents are kept in vehicles.
• Coordinate official trips for optimal efficiency.
• Maintain vehicles via regular checks and upkeep.
• Provide routine reports on maintenance and fuel usage.
• Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all duties.
• Perform additional tasks as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Valid driver's license suitable for the vehicle class with a clean driving record.
• Completed Advanced Level and Ordinary Level education.
• Minimum of 3 years driving experience in an office or organization setting.
• Defensive driving certification is beneficial.
• Basic computer skills to participate in online trainings, email communication, and data entry is preferred.
• Ability to read road signs and communicate effectively.
• Strong accountability and teamwork skills collaborating with project and non-project teams.
• Fluent communication in English and local language.
• Creative problem-solving and team spirit.
