Role Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Energy Operations and CleanTech for EMEA, the Director for APAC will spearhead Equinix's global energy and sustainability strategies throughout the Asia-Pacific region. This senior leadership position involves providing strategic guidance, governance, and operational oversight of energy procurement, renewable energy initiatives, and utility strategy, managing a team of senior managers and collaborating with global stakeholders to propel Equinix's decarbonization and energy resilience goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and own regional energy procurement and sustainability strategies aligning with global priorities and local business needs.
- Adapt global plans into executable strategies tailored for APAC, ensuring scalability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with regional regulations.
- Serve as the regional expert on energy markets, renewable technologies, and sustainability trends.
- Manage, mentor, and develop senior management teams across the region, fostering a collaborative high-performance culture.
- Oversee energy sourcing, procurement, and contracting processes across APAC with executive oversight.
- Lead complex negotiations and partnership development with utilities, energy developers, and suppliers, optimizing commercial terms and managing energy trading risks.
- Ensure strong financial modeling, investment analysis, governance, and budget oversight for major energy transactions.
- Guide renewable energy projects such as offsite/on-site power purchase agreements, environmental commodities, and distributed energy solutions to support carbon reduction targets.
- Provide strategic direction on utilities engagement, new power infrastructure, and connection agreements, leveraging in-depth knowledge of physical power grids and infrastructure planning.
- Collaborate with Operations and Development teams to guarantee reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient power supply, planning for future capacity needs.
- Act as a liaison to senior stakeholders across functions including Global Operations, Finance, Sales, Investor Relations, and represent the company externally in industry forums and partnerships.
- Employ market intelligence and maintain regulatory awareness to inform strategic decisions and establish strong relationships with key industry players.
Qualifications and Experience
- 12 to 15+ years of relevant experience in energy procurement, utility management, or sustainability sectors with extensive exposure to APAC markets.
- Proven leadership managing regional teams and overseeing complex cross-border projects.
- Bachelor's degree mandatory, with preference for a Master's degree (MBA or relevant energy discipline).
- Expertise in power markets, renewable energy procurement, power purchase agreements, and energy sourcing within APAC.
- Successful track record in negotiating large-scale contracts and building supplier relationships.
- Strong skills in financial modeling, project evaluation, risk management for energy trading, and commercial aspects of energy transactions.
- Background in utility companies, energy development, consulting, or infrastructure sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of power infrastructures, grid constraints, connection agreements, and asset management.
- Ability to interact effectively at executive and strategic levels, influencing senior leadership.
- Excellent negotiation, commercial judgement, decision-making, and communication abilities to explain complex matters to diverse audiences.
- Highly analytical mindset capable of evaluating multiple business scenarios.
- Willingness to travel internationally within the APAC region as necessary.
