Role Overview
Join our research team as a Data Scientist to develop reliable data pipelines, sift through complex data, and convert analytical findings into actionable business decisions focused on equity markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage web scrapers to gather structured and unstructured data from publicly available sources.
- Perform cleaning, normalization, and validation of datasets, identifying anomalies and maintaining thorough documentation of methodologies.
- Assess the quality and applicability of data by evaluating coverage, timeliness, and potential signals related to equity market applications.
- Conduct thorough desk research on organizations, sectors, and market trends to contextualize quantitative results.
- Create clear and succinct written and visual reports conveying data outcomes and statistical insights to audiences with varying technical expertise.
- Collaborate with senior researchers and strategic managers to refine data acquisition strategies, prioritize new data sources, and convert quantitative findings into pragmatic insights.
Candidate Profile
You are an experienced data scientist adept at applying statistical analysis and building data pipelines within a professional environment. While degrees in data science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or related quantitative disciplines are preferred, we value skills and a passion for continual learning equally. A genuine interest in markets combined with an ability to derive clear insights from complex data sets is essential.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong proficiency in Python, including writing well-organized, independent scripts.
- Extensive experience with pandas for data transformation, manipulation, and analysis.
- Analytical mindset with critical evaluation of data beyond surface-level outputs.
- Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring thorough quality control of your work.
- Solid understanding of statistics: hypothesis testing, regression, distributions, and rigorous interpretation of model results.
- Ability to communicate data findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders, translating complex analyses into clear narratives and actionable recommendations.
- Confident verbal and written communication skills with autonomy in presentation delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or knowledge of equity markets gained through professional work, personal investing, or independent analysis.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services, particularly S3 for data storage and Athena for querying large-scale datasets.
- Some exposure to SQL or database querying basics.
- Understanding of financial data vendors such as Bloomberg or Refinitiv, or alternative data concepts.
- Experience using version control systems like Git and collaborating within shared codebases.
