Colorist / Merchandiser – Product Development

Overview

The Colorist / Merchandiser in Product Development oversees complete color creation and approval workflows spanning fabrics, garments, and trims. This role guarantees precise color rendition from initial concept to mass production, partnering closely with suppliers, quality assurance teams, and headquarters. It ensures thorough data accuracy, timeline adherence, and upholding quality benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead new color creation processes including effective communication, lab dip evaluation, and endorsement.
• Generate and manage color reflectance metrics and QTX files for distribution to suppliers and company HQ.
• Establish and communicate standards for color depth and quadrant sets with relevant parties.
• Provide suppliers with approved lab dip recipes to maintain color uniformity.
• Collaborate with suppliers on garment dyeing for innovative color development.
• Operate and upkeep color measurement devices, including calibration for data precision.
• Visual and data-driven appraisal and approval of mini bulks following checklist protocols.
• Maintain comprehensive Mini Bulk Master records and supply feedback and official approvals to suppliers.
• Organize and maintain both digital and physical archives for all mini bulk approvals.
• Work alongside Quality Control to update and replace outdated mini bulk standards with new references and manage renewal deadlines.
• Conduct first bulk shade validations via color data systems upon QC or supplier requests.
• Oversee label, packaging, and finishing accessories development and approval in partnership with suppliers and headquarters.
• Process trim card approvals received from factories, ensuring full compliance and signed authorization.
• Coordinate directly with factories on lab dips, fabric quality, trims, and mini bulk procedures.
• Manage consistent, professional, and timely communication between all internal and external groups.
• Arrange shipment of lab dips, mini bulks, and accessory samples to headquarters and monitor on-time delivery with correct documentation.
• Support additional special assignments or projects as directed by line management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Educational qualification in Textiles or related domain.
• Between 5 to 7 years of applied experience in color development roles.
• In-depth knowledge of color science and how colors perform on different fabric types.

• Extensive product expertise particularly regarding the interaction between fabric and color.
• Strong analytic skills along with excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer skills.
• Ability to work effectively in teams with a collaborative approach.
• Adaptability to flexible work demands, pressure, and managing several priorities simultaneously.
