Overview
This role is offered through a hiring partner on behalf of a client company, which will handle applications and all later stages of the process. The position is for a Clinical Operations Manager in the United States, with a home-based work setup.
This is a leadership role for an experienced clinical research professional who can guide a team of Clinical Research Associates while helping deliver clinical trials effectively. The job brings together team leadership, operational planning, and quality oversight in a collaborative research setting. You will help improve how resources are used, strengthen processes, and support dependable execution across multiple studies.
The role suits someone who enjoys mentoring teams, resolving operational issues, and driving ongoing improvement. You will work with cross-functional stakeholders to support efficient study delivery and uphold strong standards for quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct, mentor, coach, and develop Clinical Research Associates at different experience levels.
- Handle hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and ongoing development plans for the team.
- Plan staffing, allocate resources, and manage workload distribution across clinical studies.
- Work with Project Managers and other stakeholders to keep studies on track and address operational issues.
- Track team performance through defined metrics and take action to improve efficiency.
- Help implement quality controls and support ongoing improvements to clinical processes and systems.
- Take part in audit preparation, sponsor reviews, and regulatory inspections.
- Contribute to feasibility work for both active and future studies.
- Support clear communication between project teams and investigational sites so operations run smoothly.
- Provide operational input for business development efforts, including client conversations and networking when required.
Requirements
- An advanced degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent mix of education, training, and experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in clinical research, with proven people management or team leadership exposure.
- Prior independent experience working onsite as a Clinical Research Associate is mandatory.
- Background in managing, coaching, or mentoring clinical research staff in a CRO, sponsor, or similar environment.
- Strong capability in leadership, communication, coaching, and employee development.
- Hands-on experience with resource planning, workload balancing, and performance management.
- Good understanding of ICH-GCP standards, regulatory expectations, and clinical trial operations.
- Experience supporting audits, inspections, and quality improvement work is an advantage.
- Strong organization, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and clinical research software/systems.
- Advanced written and spoken English.
- Ability to build trust, encourage teamwork, and create a positive team culture.
