Position Overview
The Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist is responsible for managing lower-level, straightforward workers' compensation claims within delegated authority and under the direct oversight of a senior claims professional. This role supports CorVel's claims department objectives and is fully remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive workers' compensation claims and verify policy coverage along with claim acknowledgement.
- Assess claim validity and determine compensability.
- Set reserves and authorize payments within established reserving limits.
- Handle non-complex lost-time workers' compensation claims with close supervision.
- Provide regular claim status updates to customers, claimants, and clients.
- Follow client and carrier guidelines, participating in claim reviews as necessary.
- Support more complex or problematic claims alongside other claims professionals when needed.
- Undertake additional projects and tasks as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Quick learning aptitude to acquire claims handling knowledge.
- Analytical skills for identifying issues and solving problems effectively.
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal skills paired with effective time management and organizational capabilities.
- Ability to meet or exceed defined performance standards.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Preferred minimum of one year of industry experience and claims management background.
- Maintenance of current Workers’ Compensation license or certification throughout employment.
Compensation and Benefits
CorVel applies a market-based compensation strategy, with pay ranges varying by geographic location and factoring in minimum wage laws, skills, experience, credentials, internal equity, and market conditions. The salary range for this role is $52,999 to $85,473. Candidates may be placed at different role levels based on experience and qualifications, which will be clarified during the offer process.
