Position Scope

The Chief Accountant is tasked with assisting the Director of Finance in overseeing the finance department’s operations. This includes directing, organizing, controlling accounting, financial policies, procedures, and information systems to ensure smooth accounting and financial administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements, accruals, journal entries, and maintain reconciliations for balance sheet accounts adhering to accepted accounting standards and corporate formats.
• Support the Director of Finance in preparing corporate forecasts and budgets as required.
• Manage the monthly close process including budget period closings, financial statements, cash flow reports, payroll, and other financial documentation.
• Ensure secure custody and proper handling of company money, financial instruments, assets, stocks, records, and statutory books.
• Perform detailed reconciliation of all balance sheet control accounts and assemble comprehensive reconciliation packages for month-end closing.
• Maintain controls and procedures overseeing the hotel’s income, expenses, and assets.
• Oversee post-departure credit card allowances, ensuring all adjustments are accounted for correctly, authorized, and audited monthly.
• Manage payroll processing to guarantee timely salary payments.
• Coordinate accounting standard operating procedure audits throughout the property.
• Monitor daily cash positions to optimize fund utilization.
• Record and disclose gains or losses from sale or disposal of fixed assets accurately in financial statements.
• Safeguard hotel assets, thereby enhancing profitability.
• Maintain detailed capital expenditure records and ensure adherence to internal controls.
• Control hotel expenses by reviewing daily audit reports and addressing any significant financial issues that impact business or guest experience.
• Produce accurate, timely financial reports, presentations, and analyses to support departmental objectives.
• Ensure all financial reports meet submission deadlines.
• Conduct periodic accounting principle and SOP audits to ensure compliance.
