About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated CAD Designer with a passion for electronic dance music culture and creative design. This individual will be responsible for producing detailed two-dimensional site plans for various Insomniac event experiences. The role primarily works in an office environment but requires occasional travel and onsite presence at events to ensure accuracy and successful execution.

Insomniac is renowned worldwide for producing innovative and immersive music festivals and events enriched by advanced lighting, pyrotechnics, sound designs, large-scale art, performers, and special effects. Hosting approximately 10,000 events annually for seven million attendees across 13 countries and five continents, Insomniac's flagship festival, the Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, is the largest dance music festival globally.
Responsibilities
- Create complex multi-layered 2D CAD drawings encompassing all elements of festivals and concerts.
- Ensure all designs comply with safety regulations and standards.
- Master standard site plan structures used across Insomniac festivals to streamline project workflows.
- Conduct site visits for precise measurements and detailed note-taking to aid in CAD development.
- Produce geo-tagged drawings with accurate measurements for object placement during festival setup.
- Calculate geometric data such as area, distance, radius, angle, and volume from CAD objects.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments and integrate feedback into designs.
- Complete capacity assessments for entire sites and individual stage audience zones as requested.
- Develop as-built documentation for current projects to inform subsequent planning efforts.
- Coordinate with site production teams during event build to correctly position key elements.
- Maintain company-owned plotters and measurement equipment.
- Identify potential design issues and communicate proactively to Festival/Concert producers.
- Regularly travel, primarily economy class, to support events.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in 2D CAD, preferably with outdoor event or similar projects.
- Previous experience in live events is an advantage.
- Ability to focus on detailed tasks while understanding overall project objectives.
- Effective prioritization skills in demanding, fast-paced environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
- Excellent organizational skills managing multiple concurrent projects.
- Efficient problem-solving skills and proactive attitude toward challenges.
- Comfortable adapting to dynamic, startup-like work conditions.
- Deep enthusiasm for music with motivation to learn industry intricacies.
- Strict confidentiality adherence relating to corporate and marketing information.
- Willing and able to travel frequently and work during evenings, holidays, and weekends.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace tools.
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil Engineering principles, and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign).
- Self-driven with a "can-do" mindset and urgency to meet project deadlines.
Work Environment and Conditions
- Able to tolerate high noise levels and busy settings.
- Capable of working in extreme temperature conditions.
- Willingness to work fluctuating hours, including evenings and weekends, as per event needs.
