Role Overview
We are seeking a Business Development Officer based primarily in Cairns to support regional business growth. Reporting to the Senior Business Development Officer, this permanent full-time role involves devising and executing business strategies aimed at increasing the region's market share and revenue through diverse education, training, and consultancy offerings.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify client needs and industry trends through varied outreach including face-to-face meetings to uncover new commercial business opportunities.
- Lead marketing initiatives for commercial training programs, promoting the region as a premium educational and consultancy provider.
- Collaborate with management and educational teams to convert leads into commercial sales using strategic sales approaches.
- Monitor client activity, competitor products, market trends, and business outcomes and manage sales pipelines effectively.
- Prepare proposals, tenders, project plans, and financial quotations accurately, ensuring compliance with legislative and policy standards.
- Present commercial proposals to clients collaboratively with educational teams to effectively market TAFE’s products.
- Contribute to regional strategic objectives by delivering growth, stakeholder engagement, and commercial results.
- Stay informed on financial performance and external influences impacting TAFE Queensland.
- Engage proactively with industry, business, and community stakeholders.
- Support quality policies by fostering a high-quality work environment consistent with documented quality systems.
- Drive cultural and transformational change, embodying values such as initiative, teamwork, customer focus, and accountability.
Required Qualifications and Conditions
- Possession of a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) is mandatory for employment.
- You must hold a valid Queensland Driver's License.

- Proven experience in research, proposal development, tendering, and financial quotation preparation within a professional or commercial environment.
- Demonstrated success in business development and key account management with evidence of meeting or surpassing sales targets.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills enabling innovative training program strategies aligned with client needs.
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and negotiation abilities facilitating effective liaison with diverse stakeholders.
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving business demands and collaborate effectively across teams to achieve results.
Highly Desired Competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and Outlook.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Attention to detail coupled with outstanding organizational abilities.
