Role overview

Graham Packaging Canada Limited is hiring a Blow Mold Set Up Technician for its Mississauga, Ontario facility. The role centers on keeping blow moulding machines and molds in working order, supporting preventative maintenance, and helping production run efficiently and safely.

Key duties

• Set up and run one or more blow moulding machines according to required specifications.
• Swap molds and tooling, and make equipment adjustments during production changeovers.
• Check bottle quality during production and fine-tune machine settings when needed.
• Diagnose issues, carry out maintenance, and complete minor equipment repairs.
• Work from the Bill of Materials to follow the correct moulding process.
• Track material inventory and keep the work area clean and organized.
• Look after molds and machines to keep them in serviceable condition.
• Raise corrective, preventive, and continuous-improvement opportunities through the proper channels and help implement and verify fixes.
• Follow all safety procedures, including Lock-Out / Tag-Out requirements.
• Support production activities whenever extra help is needed.
• Maintain sufficient spare-parts inventory.
• Assist with general housekeeping tasks.

Requirements

• Secondary school completion is required, along with post-secondary training in plastics, manufacturing, or a related field.
• A Statistical Process Control (SPC) course is considered an advantage.
• Training in hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronic systems is helpful.
• At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing is required, plus several prior years working as a helper, tender, or packer.
• Strong troubleshooting and time-management abilities are needed.
• Excellent spoken and written English communication skills are required.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build constructive working relationships are important.
• The candidate must be able to work independently within a defined and documented schedule.
• Computer literacy and working knowledge of MS Office are required.
• A solid understanding of workplace health and safety risks in a manufacturing environment, including Ontario Occupational Health and Safety legislation, is expected.
