This full-time role is based in Port St Lucie, FL, focusing on managing insect colonies and supporting both laboratory and field scientific research. The position involves ensuring the health and productivity of insect colonies within quarantine and non-quarantine environments, managing research operations in the Principal Investigator's absence, and maintaining clean and safe workspaces including laboratories and greenhouses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee insect colonies by maintaining their health and productivity while adhering strictly to research protocols and biosafety measures.
  • Provide guidance and management to field and laboratory personnel, ensuring smooth operation and compliance with experimental procedures during the absence of the Principal Investigator.
  • Conduct experiments and fieldwork, meticulously collect data, perform statistical analyses, and document detailed research observations and results.
  • Modify or optimize research protocols with PI approval to enhance experimental techniques.
  • Travel as required to various research locations, operating both University and State vehicles responsibly to support field studies and outreach programs.
  • Compile and analyze data related to both laboratory and field experiments and prepare detailed reports on findings.
  • Manage procurement by ordering, inspecting, and maintaining inventories of necessary laboratory and field supplies and equipment.
  • Support community outreach, educational events, and Extension initiatives related to the research department.
  • Perform laboratory and equipment cleaning duties to maintain a sterile and safe research environment.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field with at least three years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with one year of relevant experience.
  • Valid driver's license and Florida Pesticide Applicator License are mandatory.
