Overview
We are excited to offer a training opportunity to become a High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Therapist through collaboration between Birmingham Healthy Minds NHS Talking Therapies and Coventry University. The academic component will consist of face-to-face learning at Coventry University through a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT. Clinical placements will be available across four Birmingham Healthy Minds bases located in the North, South, East, and West parts of Birmingham, where trainees will develop clinical competencies under supervision.
Training and Selection Process
Applications close on 26 July 2026. Informal interviews with Birmingham Healthy Minds are scheduled for 10 August 2026. Candidate information will then be shared with Coventry University, who will conduct an academic screening via MS Teams on 23 September 2026. Successful candidates will be invited to a joint formal interview with both Coventry University and Birmingham Healthy Minds, also held via MS Teams, on 16 October 2026. The course is set to begin in January 2027, lasting 12 months.
Expectations and Commitments
This training requires dedication and commitment. Trainees will carry a small clinical caseload and should not engage in other roles or training programs during this intense course. The exact number of days needed to meet educational objectives and skill-based competencies will be provided later. Candidates must either already hold a core professional qualification or be applying through completion of a knowledge, skills, and attitude portfolio. Completion of the Post Graduate Diploma leads to immediate eligibility for progression to Band 7 upon a successful interview.
Important Notes
- The university will not accept applicants who do not meet essential criteria or who have previously attempted and not completed this course at other institutions.
- This program is a partnership between Birmingham Healthy Minds NHS Talking Therapies service and Coventry University.
- Adherence to the Trust’s values and commitment to the role is essential.
