About the Role
We are seeking a capable and energetic professional, ideally with prior experience in Physical Commodities, who can thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment. This role involves close collaboration with business functions and key support teams to support business growth while prioritizing risk management and controls related to trade capture, documentation, and settlement of complex physical commodity transactions.
Team Overview
The Operations division plays a crucial role supporting the entire firm, including Banking, Sales & Trading and Asset Management functions globally. It ensures robust risk oversight and maintains the firm’s assets and reputation through meticulous process and control development for each trade, product launch, and market entry.
The Physical Commodities Operations team supports the Americas commodity business and comprises Physical Documentation and Physical Settlements sub-teams. These groups work alongside sales, trading, logistics, strategists, technology, and legal teams to manage physical commodity products.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage onboarding of new structured physical commodities business, perform desk support, conduct trade checkouts, and handle contract documentation.
- Support traders, sales teams, and marketers with existing and new physical commodity transactions.
- Monitor payments and receipts daily, invoice clients, and reconcile customer account balances across various commodity activities.
- Develop and review structured Excel models to support business operations and transaction reconciliations.
- Engage daily with stakeholders including Traders, Sales, Technology, Legal, Strategists, and other Operational teams.
- Prepare and review reports related to escalations and control measures.
- Facilitate onboarding of new transactions and stay informed about new commodity business opportunities.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum three years of experience with a bachelor’s degree.
- Possess strong technical and analytical skills with great attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel including VBA macros.
- Demonstrate initiative, ownership, and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Exhibit strong teamwork capabilities and a keen focus on risk and controls.
- Excellent time management skills to meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Good understanding of commodities markets.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this New York-based role is between $80,000 and $135,000 per year. In addition, eligible employees may receive an annual discretionary bonus. Goldman Sachs offers comprehensive benefits and wellness programs designed to support employee growth and well-being.
