Assistant Psychologist

About the Role

Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust (MFT) is seeking a full-time Assistant Psychologist to join the Paediatric Psychosocial Service (PPS) within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH). This fixed-term position involves supporting the Pain team and the Complication from Excess Weight (CEW) service. The Assistant Psychologist will be responsible for conducting psychological assessments and interventions with children in these specialized areas.

The CEW service at RMCH is a specialized multidisciplinary center in the North West region, providing expert care to children facing complications linked to excess weight. The Pain team offers outpatient services utilizing both individual and group psychological treatments for chronic pain management in children.

Working Environment and Responsibilities

The role requires comfort working within a hospital setting, discussing a variety of medical topics, and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams. Duties include assisting with service evaluations, completing screening questionnaires with patients and families to identify those needing more in-depth psychological assessments, and participating in general departmental activities. The services provide care for both inpatients and outpatients with numerous opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration.

Candidate Requirements

• Possess a good Honours Degree in Psychology with at least a 2:1 classification.
• Solid knowledge of developmental and abnormal psychology.
• Clear understanding of psychological theories and intervention methods.
• Experience working with children experiencing psychological difficulties.
