Assistant Manager - Category

About the Role

This position involves full-time employment based in Bangalore, with the responsibility of owning and managing the business profit & loss for the assigned region. The role requires driving business growth through a strategic mix of product assortment, pricing strategies, promotions, and vendor engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead business management and P&L accountability for the region, utilizing assortment, pricing, promotions, and vendor collaborations to enhance category growth and profitability.
• Analyze and plan optimal product assortments, benchmark against competitors, identify assortment gaps, and conduct quarterly reviews to ensure efficiency and relevance in each city.
• Possess comprehensive knowledge of the category including regional differences, pricing structures, vendor sourcing, regional brands, and modes of payment for key brands and items.
• Strengthen and maintain business relationships with brands, successfully execute monthly business plans, and foster overall growth at the brand level.
• Strategize, develop, and promote new categories or fill missing portfolio segments to maximize market share within the division.
• Ensure 100% vendor fill rates, warehouse availability, and front-end product availability by collaborating closely with brands to guarantee timely and complete deliveries.
• Adopt an entrepreneurial mindset by acting as a merchant and focusing on long-term category development, continuously benchmarking product ranges to sustain leadership every month.
• Drive Private Label (PL) category sales growth, market share, profitability, availability, and new product development initiatives in partnership with regional repackers and co-packers.

Desired Skills and Experience

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in category management, specifically within the dairy sector.
• Strong capability to recognize and resolve complex, ambiguous challenges.
• Ability to identify customer needs and innovate solutions to meet them.
• Resilience and self-motivation to develop ideas independently and excel in a dynamic, start-up like environment.
• Exceptional analytical thinking, project management, meticulous attention to detail, and outstanding organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities coupled with strong interpersonal skills.
• High level of attention to detail and willingness to actively engage in hands-on work.
