About the Role
This contract position is designed for highly trained applied physicists who want to help evaluate and improve advanced AI systems. The work focuses on challenging models with demanding physics tasks, checking whether their reasoning stays consistent with real-world laws, and supplying expert feedback that strengthens physical understanding in AI outputs.
The role is fully remote and flexible, and it does not require prior experience in AI. What matters most is deep physics expertise, careful analytical thinking, and the ability to spot where model reasoning breaks down.
Role Details
- Organization: Alignerr
- Engagement type: Hourly contract
- Work arrangement: Remote
- Weekly commitment: 10 to 40 hours
What You Will Do
- Create advanced physics questions at a PhD qualifying-exam level that require layered reasoning, mathematical rigor, and familiarity with topics such as quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics.
- Write accurate reference solutions with clear, step-by-step logic, ensuring constants, units, conversions, and derivations are correct throughout.
- Review AI-generated explanations, proofs, and simulations for physical validity and flag cases where the model contradicts core laws such as conservation of energy or momentum.
- Provide structured expert feedback that helps improve AI performance on boundary conditions, symmetry rules, conservation laws, and other physics fundamentals.
Who We Are Looking For
- Someone who has completed a PhD or is in the final stage of a PhD in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong command of Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics.
- Excellent scientific writing skills with the ability to explain sophisticated derivations clearly and logically in English.
- Very high attention to detail, especially in units, dimensional analysis, scientific notation, and proof structure.
- A self-directed professional who is comfortable handling independent, task-based work.
- No prior AI or data annotation background is necessary.
Preferred Background
- Experience in data annotation, scientific data review, or quality assurance for research-related work.
- Hands-on use of tools such as Python with NumPy/SciPy, MATLAB, or COMSOL.
- Exposure to research benchmarking or physics education.
Why This Role May Appeal to You
- Contribute to high-impact AI efforts in collaboration with leading research teams.
- Enjoy a fully remote setup with the flexibility to choose when and where you work.
- Apply advanced physics knowledge to meaningful and intellectually demanding problems.
- Benefit from freelance-style independence while working on consequential projects.
- Gain exposure to frontier AI models and their evaluation workflows.
- There may be opportunities for continued work and contract extensions as new projects begin.
