About the Role
Port Macquarie Hastings Council is looking for a dependable Waste Depot Attendant to assist across various Waste Transfer Stations. These facilities receive, sort, and inspect household and council waste, ensuring materials like metal, green waste, and cardboard are recovered for recycling instead of landfill.
Key Responsibilities
- Open and secure the facility daily.
- Manage vehicular movement and public access on-site.
- Oversee safety of all personnel on-site.
- Offer consistent, clear guidance to visitors regarding waste disposal.
- Inspect and prevent hazardous or unauthorized waste from entry.
- Direct waste to appropriate recycling or landfill sections.
- Use the WasteMan weighbridge system to log waste accurately.
- Administer disposal fees, handle payments including cash, EFTPOS, and vouchers.
- Balance daily transactions and maintain accurate reconciliations.
- Respond to customer inquiries professionally.
- Conduct routine cleaning and maintain yard conditions.
- Operate forklifts and front-end loaders as essential tasks.
- Utilize minor plant and equipment required for operations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Possession of a Class C Driver Licence.
- Demonstrated ability to operate forklifts and front-end loaders.
- Prior experience operating plant or machinery in professional environments.
- Familiarity with cash handling and financial reconciliation.
- Basic computer literacy and data entry proficiency, especially with WasteMan software.
- Strong commitment to safety and strict adherence to procedures.
- Willingness to work outdoors under various weather conditions.
- Dependable work ethic and consistent attendance.
Working Hours and Conditions
This is a full-time position averaging 38 hours per week, based on a rotating seven-day roster. Shifts run between 7:45 am and 4:15 pm. Working weekends and public holidays as part of normal hours is a condition of employment, with scheduling determined by the Waste Services roster.
Salary and Benefits
- Weekly remuneration ranges from $1,214 to $1,359 (plus 12% superannuation).
- Opportunity for competency-based salary progression, with the first review after three months and backdated increases.
