About the Role

As an Underground Sandvik Rock Tools (SRT) Technician based in NFCA, Chambeshi, you will execute daily tasks essential for supporting the servicing of Sandvik Rock Tool Supply Performance Contracts. Compliance with operational procedures, company policies, work scopes, and contractual agreements is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure prompt delivery of rock tools and related products to specified sites each day.
- Collect worn or damaged rock tools from drilling locations and transport them safely to the surface for inspection.
- Assess the condition and failure patterns of rock tools and discuss findings and improvement ideas with machine operators.
- Maintain adequate stock levels on drilling rigs by replenishing items from buffer stores as needed.
- Conduct detailed failure analyses on defective components and report unusual findings to Contract Supervisor or Sales Representative.
- Use the Sandvik Report App to document and share operational data for enhanced evaluation.
- Perform sorting, gauging, cutting back, grinding, and color-coding of used drill bits.
- Repair blocked or bent rods, ensuring they meet operational standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Completed Grade 12 certificate or its equivalent.
- Hold a Craft Certificate of Competence, Advanced Technician Certificate, or a comparable qualification.
- A minimum of five years’ experience demonstrating expertise in rock tool servicing.
- Basic proficiency in computer use.
- Fluent in English communication.
- Possess valid full physical and medical certification suitable for the mining environment.
- Capability to analyze mechanical failures and provide practical solutions.
- Experience in refurbishing rock tools through grinding, cutting, and straightening techniques.
- Understanding of stock management systems.
- Familiarity operating specialized reporting software.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with operators and supervisors.
Candidate Profile and Working Conditions
The preferred applicant will have prior experience working underground near heavy machinery, with existing site inductions being a significant advantage. A dedication to safety, excellent customer service orientation, and strong communication abilities are vital.
Knowledge of on-site service agreements, underground mining procedures, and Sandvik drilling products will be advantageous. All candidates must have the legal right to work in Zambia and hold a valid manual driver's license. The role operates on a rotating schedule of four days on followed by four days off, with 12-hour shifts and possible reasonable overtime. A pre-employment medical examination must be successfully passed.
