About the Role
A Turner, also known as a Lathe Machine Operator, is a skilled tradesperson responsible for operating both conventional and CNC lathe machines. The role involves manufacturing precise metal parts as per engineering specifications, ensuring both quality and safety standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate conventional and CNC lathe machines to perform various machining tasks.
- Carry out operations such as turning, facing, threading, boring, drilling, grooving, and taper turning.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications accurately.
- Set up workpieces, cutting tools, fixtures, and chucks appropriately.
- Select suitable cutting speeds, feed rates, and tooling for tasks.
- Use precision measuring instruments like Vernier calipers, micrometers, and dial gauges to measure finished components.
- Inspect parts to ensure they meet dimensional accuracy and quality criteria.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines.
- Adhere to safety procedures and quality guidelines in the workplace.
- Maintain production records and strive to meet daily production targets.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of conventional and CNC lathe machine operations.
- Proficient in reading and understanding engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools and techniques.
- Good mechanical aptitude with thorough attention to detail.
- Understanding of machining processes and cutting tool applications.
- Problem-solving abilities and capacity to work collaboratively in a team.
- ITI certification in Turner is preferred.
- Practical experience in operating lathe machines and understanding manufacturing practices.
Work Environment
The role is suited to manufacturing plants, machine workshops, and tool rooms, serving industries such as automotive, engineering, aerospace, and heavy equipment manufacturing.
Compensation
The salary ranges between INR 20,000 to 25,000 per month.
