Overview

Join a Europe-wide effort to simplify how people pay and get paid. The European Payments Initiative is building Wero, a European digital wallet designed to make payments more straightforward, transparent, and secure. It works online, in stores, at home, and across borders, while keeping money and data protected under European laws and regulations. Wero is already available in Belgium, France, and Germany, and is set to launch soon in Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Supported by 16 major banks and the two largest European acquirers, the organization is creating a new European payment ecosystem.

Role summary

As a Transformation & Integration Intern, you will support high-impact initiatives around M&A integration, corporate strategy, governance, and operating model design. The internship offers practical exposure to how large transformation programs are delivered across multiple countries and legal entities.

About the team

You will be part of the Transformation & Integration Management Office (TIMO), working under the Chief Integration Officer and partnering with Legal, Finance, HR, Product & Engineering, and Risk teams. The IMO is responsible for driving EPI’s Target Operating Model and coordinating strategic transformation topics across the organization.

Key responsibilities

Your work will include supporting strategic transformation and integration efforts, preparing planning materials, and helping the team track progress across programs.

  • Coordinate strategic transformation workstreams linked to mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, corporate restructuring, and governance alignment.
  • Gather and combine inputs from different business units to support group-wide planning and management reporting.
  • Prepare materials for management and supervisory board discussions.
  • Research operating model approaches, review organizational structures, and summarize findings for decision-makers.
  • Build clear presentations and executive-ready documents for C-level stakeholders and steering committees.
  • Maintain KPI dashboards and risk logs for transformation initiatives.
  • Support additional work on geographic growth, intercompany structuring, and organizational design.

What you may work on

If you had started recently, you could have helped shape the integration roadmap for Payconiq and Currence iDEAL into EPI’s Target Operating Model, supported board-level planning on market strategy, and assisted with governance documentation related to corporate restructuring.

  • You should be in your final year of study or have recently graduated in business, economics, finance, or a related discipline.
  • A genuine interest in corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational transformation is important.
  • Previous internship experience in consulting, corporate strategy, or financial services is preferred.
  • You need strong PowerPoint and Excel skills, along with the ability to present complex ideas in a structured and visually clear way.
  • English fluency at C1/C2 level is required; knowledge of additional European languages is a plus.
  • You should bring an analytical, detail-focused, and proactive approach in a fast-moving environment.
  • Comfort with hybrid cross-border collaboration is needed, and occasional travel of 0–2 times per month may be expected.

Recruitment process

  • Initial conversation with a recruiter.
  • Interview with a team member focused on the role.
  • Final interview with one of the Transformation Managers.
  • Offer stage, if selected.
