Role Overview

This position, located in Kenya, is with a partner company seeking a Technical Writer to join a global, remote-first team. The role involves shaping how developers and technical users engage with complex software solutions by creating and managing documentation for important product areas. Collaboration with engineering, product, and design teams is critical to ensure clear, precise, and effective content. This role requires technical expertise combined with content strategy skills to enhance user adoption and experience, also contributing to documentation processes and infrastructure improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of documentation for designated product areas and act as the primary technical writing resource within product teams.
• Work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to keep documentation accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with product releases.
• Develop an in-depth understanding of assigned products by hands-on testing and generating user-oriented documentation.
• Manage documentation projects from initial planning, writing, through to review, publication, and ongoing updates.
• Champion the creation of user-centered documentation, incorporating customer insights into product discussions.
• Continuously enhance documentation clarity, organization, and coverage using analytics and feedback.
• Collaborate with fellow technical writers to exchange best practices and elevate documentation standards.
• Support maintenance and development of documentation tools, build systems, deployment methods, and platforms.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least 3 years of experience in technical writing focused on developer-oriented documentation such as user guides, installation manuals, API references, tutorials, or technical articles.
• Proven capability in comprehending, testing, and documenting complex software products and technical environments.
• Practical familiarity with technologies including Java, Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, and similar developer tools.
• Experience producing documentation for SaaS, on-premise, or enterprise software solutions.
• Adaptability to create content tailored to diverse audiences such as software engineers, developers, business analysts, and technical stakeholders.
• Knowledge of docs-as-code processes, Git, Markdown, AI-assisted writing tools, and documentation frameworks like Docusaurus.
• Willingness and capability to regularly use the software ecosystem being documented.
• Experience with maintaining documentation platforms, deployment pipelines, or technical infrastructure is a bonus.
• Software engineering background or programming proficiency is advantageous.
• Ability to contribute to establishing and enhancing technical writing standards and style guides across departments.
