Technical - Functional Business Analyst

Position Overview

We are seeking a Technical - Functional Business Analyst to join our team in New York City. This individual will bridge the gap between Operations & Finance realities and the practical software development process. The role involves deep listening, insightful questioning, workflow mapping, and converting insights into clear, testable requirements suited for engineering implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct discovery sessions with stakeholders to analyze existing workflows, identify pain points, controls, and define goals.
• Clarify ambiguous situations by drafting precise problem definitions, scope limits, assumptions, risks, and success criteria.
• Convert business requirements into concrete delivery artifacts such as process diagrams, user stories, acceptance criteria, and non-functional requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers and product owners to refine requirements, address trade-offs, and unblock execution.
• Assist in testing and validation by outlining test scenarios, coordinating user acceptance testing, and ensuring the delivered solutions meet intended outcomes.
• Ensure traceability by linking requirements to business outcomes, supporting audit processes including controls, approvals, and data lineage.
• Leverage AI tools for enhanced analysis and documentation (including summarization, drafting, gap analysis), ensuring accuracy and safeguarding sensitive data.
• Maintain transparent and consistent communication regarding status updates, decisions, and unresolved queries to foster trust.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in roles such as Business Analyst, Functional Analyst, or Technical Business Analyst within software delivery projects.
• Proficient in discovery and requirement gathering, capable of transforming discussions into testable and structured requirements rapidly.
• Comfortable participating in technical conversations involving APIs, data flows, and system behavior with engineers.
• Excellent written communication skills to produce clear, concise, and actionable documentation for both technical and business stakeholders.
• Strong stakeholder management abilities, adept at building relationships, managing conflicts professionally, and fostering consensus.
• Ability to conceptualize workflows and data, including handling edge cases, exceptions, and operational details.
• Exhibits high integrity, professionalism, and reliability, especially in high-pressure situations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in domains such as operations, finance, accounting, or control-focused areas like reconciliations, reporting, and approvals.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies including user story management, backlogs, and iteration planning, while being adaptable to less mature frameworks.
• Basic knowledge of data querying (SQL) and collaboration on reporting and analytics efforts.
• Understanding of event-driven or workflow-based systems (e.g., messaging, orchestration) and their impact on requirements and audit trails.
