About the Role
Are you ready to kickstart your career working with your hands and learning valuable technical skills? As a Shop Helper at U-Haul in Calgary, you will support our repair shop staff while gaining experience and exposure to vehicle maintenance processes using company-specific technology. This is an excellent opportunity for beginners or those with some experience in vehicle repair. U-Haul operates the industry's largest fleet of trucks and trailers, and you will help ensure these vehicles are maintained at their best, often working with the latest equipment models.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialized tools to dismount, balance, and mount tires.
- Maintain and recycle vehicle batteries responsibly.
- Keep the workspace clean and organized.
- Utilize machinery to machine brake rotors and drums.
- Rebuild components on trailers including brake systems and equalizers.
- Assist other shop personnel as needed.
- Be certified to operate a forklift.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is essential.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Expect to work in an environment with moderate risks requiring safety precautions such as wearing protective gear—including masks, goggles, gloves, or shields—due to exposure to moving machinery and chemicals. The role demands physical activity including standing indoors and outdoors for extended times, navigating the workspace, and lifting or moving weights of at least 50 pounds, sometimes without assistance.
